What is WARDOGS?

What is actually confirmed, taken from the official Steam listing rather than from guesswork. The game released on 10 September 2026, so first impressions are starting to land — we will update this page as the community reports back rather than repeating hype.

WARDOGS — a tactical all-out-warfare FPS where one hundred players split across three teams fight over a control zone, set in the derelict industrial mountains of Eastern Europe, on a destructible battlefield where teamwork pays and cash is king. By BULKHEAD, published by Team17. Windows PC, Early Access, from 10 September 2026.

Three teams, not two

This is the detail worth pausing on. Almost every shooter you have played is built around two sides, and nearly all the tactical instincts you have are two-sided instincts: hold this angle, push that lane, the enemy is over there.

A third team breaks that. Any fight you commit to can be interrupted by a side that was not part of it, and the winner of a long engagement is often whoever arrives last. Games built this way tend to reward patience and map awareness far more than raw aim, and they punish the player who tunnel-visions on the first enemy they see.

A hundred players changes the shape of a match

A hundred players over three teams means roughly 33 a side. That is far past squad-shooter scale and into territory where individual skill matters less than whether your side is organised. In games at this size the deciding factor is usually communication, which is exactly why a squad you actually talk to is worth more than a good sensitivity setting.

Destructible battlefield

The store page calls the battlefield destructible. In practice that usually means the cover you are relying on is temporary, and that a position which was strong five minutes ago may simply not exist any more. It tends to make matches feel less repetitive over time, and it makes static camping a losing strategy.

“Cash is king”

There is an in-game economy, and the description puts real weight on it. Beyond that, we are not going to speculate on how it works — whether cash buys loadouts, respawns, equipment, or something else entirely is not something anyone outside the studio can honestly tell you today. We will write it up properly once we have played enough to say something true.

The maps

Three at launch — Kavkazi, Europe and North America — each with a King of the Hill zone (Bakurani, Madrid and Detroit) and each playable standard, Infantry Only or Hardcore, under one of eight times of day. We read those straight off the server; the full breakdown is in WARDOGS maps and modes.

What it is not

What this means from South Africa

A hundred-player team game is the exact genre where ping and communication decide matches, and both of those are the things South Africans get handed the worst version of by default. Being the highest-latency player in a European lobby of a hundred people is a specific kind of miserable.

It is why we run a South African-only server — the reasoning is in the South African ping problem — and why the Discord matters more in a game this size than in most. Thirty-three people on your side is a lot of strangers. A few of them being your crew changes the whole match.
