What you are joining

DayZ the way we want to play it

Not vanilla and not a loot festival. A handful of mods that make the world worth building in, and rules that keep the fights fair.

First person only

No third-person camera, so nobody looks over a wall they are hiding behind. If you want to see round a corner, you look round the corner.

Raiding on weekends

Bases can only be damaged from Friday 18:00 to Sunday midnight. Build in peace during the week, defend what you built on the weekend.

One trading post

The Boets Trading Post on Green Mountain is a safe zone with traders, a bank and a notice board of paid work. Everything is priced in Boets Rand, the server’s own notes and coins, and the Bakkie Yard sells Hiluxes.

Hosted in South Africa

Sponsored by VonD and run with BOOTSTRAP PVP. Local hosting, local ping, and admins you can reach in the Discord.

Events worth fighting for

King of the Hill, hackable crates, airdrops and keycard rooms, all on the map for everyone to see. They are where the best gear and almost all the explosives come from.

Build it your way

One base per player, clan or not, inside your own territory. Expansion and BaseBuildingPlus walls from timber to concrete, and lockers and safes to fill them. On raid weekends only the doors can be broken.

How to join

You join from the DayZ launcher, not from inside the game. The launcher is what loads the mods.

  1. Own DayZ. The base game from Steam is all you need. The server runs on Chernarus, which comes with it.
  2. Set your name. In the DayZ launcher open Parameters, tick Profile name and type the name you want. Without one the game calls you “Survivor”.
  3. Find the server. In the launcher open Servers, then Community, and search BOETZ.
  4. Let it download the mods. Choose “Setup DLCs and mods and join”. It is about 8.5 GB the first time and nothing after that until a mod updates.
  5. Head for Green Mountain. You spawn on the coast with a job already in your log: find the trading post. Oom Piet will have work for you.
  6. Link Steam on the portal. A free Boet’s World account with Steam linked puts your kills, deaths and time alive on the leaderboard and in the Discord kill feed under your name.
Create your account Members get the server address and the full steps on their connect page.

BOETZ rules

The same house rules as everywhere on Boet’s World, plus the ones DayZ needs. They are in the in-game book too.

  • No cheating, ever.Cheats, scripts, macros, duping or abusing a glitch, and tools like NVIDIA Profile Inspector, ReShade or gamma tricks to see in the dark or strip grass. Permanent.
  • No racism, no hate.In chat or on voice. Banter is fine; abuse is not.
  • PvP everywhere except the trading post.Killing on sight is allowed outside the safe zone. Inside it: no killing, no stealing, no blocking traders.
  • Do not camp the safe zone.No shooting people as they arrive at or leave Green Mountain.
  • Raiding is Friday 18:00 to Sunday midnight.South African time. Only doors, gates and hatches can be broken, never walls. Outside the window nothing can be damaged.
  • One base per player.Clan or not. Build inside your own territory: up to 15 locked doors and gates and 20 locked storage items. No stashes of storage around the map.
  • Groups of six.A group or a territory holds six players. No teaming beyond that.
  • Build fair.Nothing within 1 km of the trading post, near the spawn points or on an event site, no blocked roads or loot buildings, and every base needs a door that can be raided. Turn and tilt pieces as you like, but nothing may clip into rocks, terrain or buildings, float, or leave a gap you can shoot out of but not into.
  • No combat logging.Log out somewhere safe, not in the middle of a fight or a crate hack.
  • Events are open PvP.Whoever takes the hill or finishes the hack keeps the loot. No blocking event sites with vehicles.
  • No real-money trading.Selling Boets Rand, gear or bases for real money gets both sides banned.
Straight answers

DayZ in South Africa: the questions

Is there a South African DayZ server?

Yes. BOETZ by Boets World x BOOTSTRAP PVP is hosted in South Africa and run by a South African community. Search BOETZ in the DayZ launcher under Community.

When can bases be raided?

From Friday 18:00 to Sunday midnight, South African time. For the rest of the week bases, safes and locked containers cannot be damaged, so you can build and log off without losing everything overnight.

Is it first person or third person?

First person only. There is no third-person camera on the server.

Do I have to download the mods myself?

No. Pick the server in the DayZ launcher and choose “Setup DLCs and mods and join”. The launcher subscribes to and downloads everything, about 8.5 GB the first time.

Where are the traders?

There is one trading post, on Green Mountain in the west of Chernarus, by the radio tower. It is a safe zone with traders, a bank and a notice board of paid jobs.

What money does BOETZ use?

Boets Rand: R10 to R200 notes and R1 and R5 coins, earned from jobs on the notice board and by selling to the traders. Every new character starts with R150 in their pockets and R500 in the bank. Bank it at the trading post, because cash in your pockets drops when you die.

What events are there?

King of the Hill: a flag goes up at a military site and whoever holds the zone for 15 minutes, against waves of infected and other players, wins a supply crate. Crate events: a locked crate lands and has to be hacked for 15 minutes. Airdrops: a plane drops military supplies. Keycard rooms: a rare keycard opens a locked room full of loot. They all show on the map, and King of the Hill and crates only start with at least six players online.

Where do explosives come from?

Almost only from events: King of the Hill, crates, airdrops and keycard rooms. C4, grenades, mines, claymores and rockets are rare anywhere else and no trader sells them.

Can I raid any part of a base?

No. Only doors, gates and hatches can be broken, from Friday 18:00 to Sunday midnight. Every base must have at least one door that can be raided.

Where do I respawn after I die?

You pick: one of the spawn points on the map, your own territory flag if you have one, or a sleeping bag you have placed and claimed. One bag per player, and a bag needs time between uses, so it is a way home, not a way back into a fight.

How big can a group be?

Six players, for both groups and territories.

Does it cost anything?

No. The server is free to play on. A free Boet’s World account gets you the connect details and puts you on the leaderboard; supporters keep the servers running, but nothing in the game is sold.
