Finding a WARDOGS squad in South Africa
The difference between a game you quit in a week and one you are still playing in six months is almost never the game. It is whether you had people to play it with.
Season 2 · 15 October. Our servers move to South African hosts and open to the public with the WARDOGS Season 2 launch, and members and supporters keep their priority access. This guide describes how things work until then; we will update it on launch day. See the countdown.
The 3am problem
Join a big international community for a new game and you hit the same wall every South African hits. The channels are busy — at 3am our time. By the time you get home from work and log on, the squads that formed six hours ago are deep into their evening and winding down, and the people awake with you are on another continent with a ping gap that makes playing together miserable.
A local community solves a problem that no amount of matchmaking fixes: everyone is awake at the same time as you, and everyone is on the same connection footing.
What we run
Boet’s World is a South African community, and the Discord is the front door. It is free, and it is where everything about the server happens:
- Squad channels — post what you are playing and what you are looking for, and get filled.
- Voice rooms that are actually occupied at South African hours, not empty until midnight.
- Server announcements — the connect address, downtime, restarts and events go out here first.
- Events and squad challenges, run by people rather than an algorithm.
How to actually get picked up
Most people join a Discord, lurk, never post, and conclude the community is dead. A few specific things work far better:
- Say howzit when you arrive. One message. It is the entire difference between being a name in a member list and being someone people invite.
- Post your hours, not just your request. "Looking for a squad" gets less than "on most nights after 20:00, keen for anything".
- Sit in a voice channel while you play. An occupied channel pulls people in; an empty one stays empty.
- Do not wait to be good first. Nobody is good at a game that came out yesterday. Launch week is the single easiest time to find people, because everyone is equally lost.
How the server fits in
Our WARDOGS community server is South African only — a house rule, enforced by the admins — so the people you meet in the Discord are the people you end up in matches with. That is deliberate — it means the community and the server reinforce each other instead of being two separate things. The reasoning behind the ZA-only rule is in our guide to the South African ping problem.
Supporters (R90 a month) get dedicated server access and a priority queue for when it is full, plus a VIP role, monthly giveaways and direct access to the server team. That is what pays the hosting bill — but joining the community and playing with people costs nothing.
WARDOGS is out — it released at 18:00 SAST on 10 September 2026. Get into the Discord before you queue and you will have a squad waiting instead of dropping in alone.
